A click on the "File" tab in the Menubar or pressing "Alt + F" keys will open the File menu. By default Excel opens the menu with commonly used commands only. (All commands available under the menu can be viewed by a click on the double downward arrow circular tab at the bottom of the menu.) A small triangle against a command name indicates a sub-menu for the command. The commands listed under File Menu can be executed or the sub-menu can be opened by a click on its icon / tab or by pressing key for the underlined letter after opening the menu (or by pressing the keys listed on the right side of the command name). The commands listed under File menu are :
| New | Opens new workbook (file).

| Open | By default opens "My Documents" folder to open an existing workbook. You can browse to other folder or drive to open an existing file.

| Close | Closes the currently open worksheet.
|
| Save | Saves the currently open the worksheet with same name and at same location.
|
| Save As | Enables to save the currently open worksheet with different name and / of at different location.
|
| Save as Web Page | Enables to save the currently open worksheet as a web page.

| Save Workspace | Enables to save workspace on a shared document.
|
| Search | Enables to search for a file or document on the user's computer or on the network. |
| Permission | Enables restricting permission for use of the document by others. To use this feature, you are required to install "Windows Right Management Client".

| Page Setup | Enable setting up width, height, margins, orientation, header, footer, orientation etc. of worksheets in the workbook.
|
| Print Area | Enables setting up or clearing the print area of the worksheet.
|
| Print Preview | Displays print preview of the worksheet.
|
| Print | Sends command for printing of the worksheet to the default printer.
|
| Send To | Enables sending of the workbook by e-Mail.
|
| Properties | Displays properties of the workbook viz. Author, Date of Creation, Woksheets etc.
|
| Exit | Closes Excel window. |
