Excel Window Menu

Excel Window Menu

A click on the "Window" tab in the Menu bar or pressing "Alt + W" keys will open the Window menu. By default Excel opens the menu with commonly used commands only. (All commands available under the menu can be viewed by a click on the double downward arrow circular tab at the bottom of the menu.) A small triangle against a command name indicates a sub-menu for the command. The commands listed under File Menu can be executed or the sub-menu can be opened by a click on its icon / tab or by pressing key for the underlined letter after opening the menu (or by pressing the keys listed on the right side of the command name). The commands listed under Window menu are :

New WindowOpens new window for the already open worksheet.
ArrangeWhen more than one worksheet are open, this command enables you to arrange the windows for the open worksheets horizontally, vertically, tiled (tiled horizontally and vertically) or Cascaded (The active worksheet if fully visible with title bars of other worksheets cascaded.You can bring any windows to the fore by clicking on its title bar.)
Compare Side by SideWhen two or more workbooks are open, you can compare their contents by opening them simultaneously on your screen. You can arrange the windows horizontally or vertically by using the Arrange command.
HideThe command hides the active worksheet window.
UnhideThe command un-hides the hidden windows.
SplitThe command splits the active worksheet window from the position of the selected cell. The window is split into two or four windows depending upon the position of the active cell. If the active cell is in the first column (other than the first row), the window is split in to two windows tiled vertically. If the active cell is in the first row (other than the first column), the window is split in to two windows tiled horizontally. If active cell is in neither in the first column nor the first row, the window is split in to four windows.

Freeze PanesYou can use this command to freeze part of the worksheet horizontally and or vertically (viz. Titles, Headers etc.) for easy entry, editing and processing of data in the worksheet. The frozen panes will remain always visible while you scroll to any portion of the worksheet.
