Excel Tools Menu

Excel Tools Menu

A click on the "Tools" tab in the Menubar or pressing "Alt + T" keys will open the Tools menu. By default Excel opens the menu with commonly used commands only. (All commands available under the menu can be viewed by a click on the double downward arrow circular tab at the bottom of the menu.) A small triangle against a command name indicates a sub-menu for the command. The commands listed under File Menu can be executed or the sub-menu can be opened by a click on its icon / tab or by pressing key for the underlined letter after opening the menu (or by pressing the keys listed on the right side of the command name). The commands listed under Tools menu are :

SpellingChecks spelling of text in the currently open worksheet.
ResearchEnables search for typed text on web.
Error checkingChecks errors in formulas on the worksheet and if an error is found suggestions are given.

Share WorkbookAllows editing of the workbook by more than one user at the same time.

Data AnalysisThe Analysis Toolpak is an Excel add-in program that is available when you install Microsoft Office or Excel. To use it in Excel, however, you need to load it first. To install Analysis Toolpak

  • On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
  • In the Add-Ins available box, select the check box next to Analysis Toolpak, and then click OK. If Analysis Toolpak is not listed, click Browse to locate it.
  • If you see a message that tells you the Analysis Toolpak is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it.
  • Click Tools on the menu bar. When you load the Analysis Toolpak, the Data Analysis command is added to the Tools menu.

The details of various statistical analysis and other data analysis tools available in Microsoft Excel is beyond the scope of this tutorial. The users may use Excel Help to know about various data analysis tools.
